In news from the animated genre today, Canadian animated movie MAGIK, scheduled for Christmas 2016 release, is gathering quite a stellar voice cast: DA VINCI'S DEMONS' Tom Riley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Matthew Goode, Samantha Morton, Jim Broadbent, will all give their voices to the animated characters in the $40 million fantasy movie about Lewis Clark who is a brilliant author who stumbles upon a world of Magic after the disappearance of his two young children. He begins a quest to try to stop the insidious evil that threatens to destroy both his new world and his old one.

NEW HISTORICAL TV SHOW

When it comes to television updates, today you can check out first character posters and the first trailer for Lifetime's upcoming  historical action series DELIVERANCE CREEK which arrives into the small screens September 13th! Directed by Jon Amiel (TUDORS, BORGIAS, ONCE UPON A TIME), and produced by famous writer Nicholas Sparks, the story of the new series will be set at the end of the Civil War, following a widowed mother of tree kids Belle Gatlin Barlowe (Lauren Ambrose) who faces uncertainty as she attempts to defend her family's land by any means necessary. When the corrupt bank that runs their town pushes Belle into becoming an outlaw, the stakes become personal, setting off a chain of events that force her to question whether it's better to be good or to survive. JOAN COLLINS TO PLAY

ELIZABETH HURLEY'S GRAND DUCHESS MOTHER IN 'ROYALS'

Hollywood legend Joan Collins is famous for guest starring in many TV soaps: after DYNASTY she played wicked ladies in many series and sitcoms from HAPPILY DIVORCED, PACIFIC PALISADES, WILL AND GRACE and FOOTBALLERS' WIVES to THE NANNY. Now she will mess up with ROYALS in E!'s first scripted TV series which will see Elizabeth Hurley play a fictional queen of England. Joan Collins will play the Grand Duchess of Oxford, who is the mother of Hurley's Queen Helena, and whose involvement in the Queen's life could lead to trouble, as she always pursues an agenda of her own. Scheduled for next year, THE ROYALS will see Queen Helena attempting to cover her son Prince Liam's (William Moseley) affair with the daughter of the palace's head of security. Vincent Regan is King Simon, while Tom Austen is a court guard who has an affair with the princess.

RYAN MCPARTLIN JOINS 'BAD JUDGE' SITCOM AT NBC
In short television casting news today, Ryan McPartlin has been cast in BAD JUDGE sitcom at NBC in which Kate Walsh will play a hard-living, sexually unapologetic woman whose life on the edge is constantly in balance because she also happens to be a judge in the criminal court system. Ryan McPartlin will play Billy the Fireman, her love interest.
MIRANDA OTTO IN 'WEST WORLD'
Meanwhile, over at HBO, Miranda Otto has joined Anthony Hopkins, Rodrigo Santoro, James Marsden, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton in sf series WESTWORLD which is set in an amusement park inhabited by androids who serve to please human visitors. After playing the Gargoyle queen in I, FRANKENSTEIN and the princess of Rohan in LOTR, Miranda Otto will now play the manipulative head of Westworld's Quality Assurance department.

SYFY'S 'CHILDHOOD'S END', WGN AMERICA'S 'TITANS' AND 'UNDERGROUND' MINI SERIES

When it comes to mini series SyFy is about to give a greenlight to CHILDHOOD'S END six episode sf series  based on Arthur C. Clarke's book about a peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords, whose arrival ends all war and turns the planet into a near-utopia! At the same time, WGN America has ordered 13 episodes of TITANS series telling the story of a family of outsiders who’ve been in the hills of Appalachia since before anyone can remember. Living off the grid and above the law on their mountaintop homestead, they’ll protect their world and defend their way of life using any means necessary. Beside ordering THE TEN COMMANDMENTS series before, they will also produce UNDERGROUND historical drama about the famous Underground Railroad used to smuggle slaves from the pre-Civil War South to the North!

Now, I have no idea how this one has skipped of my radar before, but it's never too late to inform you of an upcoming movie: today you can  check out the first pictures depicting the luxurious sets and costumes from THE MOON AND THE SUN a period fantasy adventure with Pierce Brosnan and Kaya Scodelario (PERCY JACKSON movies)   in the leading roles. The big screen adaptation of Vonda N. McIntyre's bestselling fantasy book which won Nebula Award back in 1997. is scheduled for the cinematic release on April 10th next year! The movie is being directed by Sean McNamara (SOUL SURFER) and also includes William Hurt, Benjamin Walker, Rachel Griffiths, Pablo Schreiber and Bingbing Fan in the cast!

KING LOUIS AND A MERMAID
Paramount's upcoming fantasy adventure has the budget of about $55 million and the story will see Pierce Brosnan sporting long wavy hairdo as His Majesty King Louis XIV of France whose quest for immortality (he is determined to protect the future of France by reigning for all eternity) leads him to capture and steal a mermaid's life force, a move that is further complicated by his illegitimate daughter's discovery of the creature. Asian star Fan BingBing plays the unfortunate mermaid while Kaya Scodelario is King Louis' daughter who  discovers the mystical creature and strikes up a friendship with her.

SERIES STARTS SECOND SEASON

Another thing to look forward too is the second season of outstandingly brilliant historical series THE VILLAGE which HOLLYWOOD SPY warmly recommends you and which is currently airing its second  season over at BBC One on Sundays!  The series brings the sweeping story of 20th Century England played out through a family in a Derbyshire village. While the first season was set just before the WW1, the second season is set in the early 1920s in which the female vote is starting to be valued, some new farming methods are influencing the success of agriculture and the whole VILLAGE is experiencing growth and rebuilding while still feeling the scars of the war. John Simm, Tom Varey, Rupert Evans, Matt Stokoe and Juliet Stevenson are leading the cast!
