Turkey's most famous females of the past decade -- like Azra Akin, the only Turkish beauty to become Miss World  -- don't attract the same international attention that French temptresses or Brazilian centerfolds do, but they're still captivating in their own right.

10. Didem Erol

Didem Erol is an actress born in Sydney to Turkish parents. She is fluent in both English and Turkish and is currently based in Los Angeles. She first appeared in the television movie called “Canli Hayat” in 2000 before she was featured in the movie entitled “Femmes ou Maitresses.” She was also in “The Accidental Spy” and “Balans ve Manevra.” In 2006, she made her first movie in Hollywood called “The Contract.” She was also in “Doomsday” and “Double Identity,” before she was included in the television movie called “Annihilation Earth.” She used to be the partner of renowned writer and director Quentin Tarantino but their relationship ended in 2011 after four years.


9. Ece Gursel

Ece Gursel is a model and singer from Antalya. She studied at Akdeniz University where she graduated with a Business Administration degree. She joined the Miss Turkey Model in 2000 and placed runner-up. In 2003, she joined the Best Model of Turkey competition and placed second once again, but she earned the right to represent the country in the Best Model International contest. She placed fourth and was awarded the Best Body Shape. In 2011, she started recording and released the album called Semi Aware.



8. Hadise

Her full name is Hadise Acikgoz, but she is more popularly known as simply Hadise. She was born in the town of Mol in Belgium to Turkish parents. She started her show business career in 2004 when she was only 19 years old with the release of the single entitled “Sweat.” The song went to number 19 in the Belgian Flanders chart. Her most notable single was the song “Milk Chocolate Girl.” Her first album, also called Sweat, earned her a TMF Award in Belgium and a Golden Butterfly Award in Turkey. The second album called Hadise was even more successful. She also hosted the Belgian version of “The X-Factor.” She then represented the country in Eurovision in 2009 where she placed fourth overall.



7. Deniz Akkaya

Deniz Akkaya is a model and actress from Istanbul. She grew up in Ankara but went back to her hometown to attend Istanbul University where she took up American Philology. In 1997, she won the Best Model of Turkey competition. She then went on to represent the country in the Best Model of the World contest where she emerged as the winner. She then became a model and fashion magazine editor. She has also appeared in the movies, debuting in 2002 with “Yesil Isik.” She was also seen in “Vizontele Tuuba” and “Metro Palas.”



6. Beren Saat

Beren Saat is an actress from Ankara. She is considered as one of the highest paid actresses in Turkey. She has won multiple Best Actress honors for her performances in “Hatirla Sevgili,” “Ask-I Memnu,” “Guz Sancisi” and “Fatmagulun Sucu Ne?” She was also part of the movie called “Rhino Season” where she shared starring honors with Monica Belluci.



5. Sinem Kobal

Sinem Kobal is an actress from Istanbul. She first appeared in the television sitcom called “Dadi” in 2001. She was also in “Hurrem Sultan” and “Lise Defteri.” In 2004, she was featured in the movie “Okul.” She was also seen in “Ayakti Kal” and “Romantik Komedi.” She appeared in television commercials for Gencturkcell and Bingo. Kobal is currently dating Arda Turan, a football player with Atletico Madrid in the Primera Liga.

Berrak Tuzunatac is a model and actress from Yalova. She then transferred to Istanbul where she took up Business Administration in Istanbul University. She worked as a television host on Turkey’s Number One TV. She then turned to acting in 2005 in the movie “Beyza’nin Kadinlari”. She was also in “Organize Isler,” “Elveda Rumeli,” “Kiskanmak,” “Ejder Kapani,” “Ezel” and “Bir Avuc Deniz.” She was also in the television series “SON.”



3. Aysun Kayaci

Aysun Kayaci is a model, actress and television presenter from Istanbul. She started out as a model, even winning the “Best Turkish Model” award in 2004. She then started acting in 2005 when she was featured in the television series called “Zehirli Cicek.” The following year, she followed it up with the movie “Kisik Ateste 15 Dakita.” She was also in the famous Pepsi commercial in Turkey in 2007. Kayaci was also in the television shows “Doktorlar” and “Sessiz Gemiler.” Her latest role has been in the criminal procedure drama called “Gece Gunduz.” She is also the presenter of the television program “Haydi Gel Bizimle Ol.” She is now studying at the Yeditepe University in Istanbul where she is taking up History.



2. Tuba Buyukustun

Tuba Buyukustun is an actress from Istanbul. She is a graduate of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul where she took up Costume and Stage Design. She appeared in television commercials for Colin’s, Kremini and Molped. In 2003, she made her acting debut in the television series “Sultan Makami.” In 2005, she won the Best Actress award from the Serbia and Montenegro International TV Festival Bar for her performance in “Gulizar.” She also won several recognitions from different award-giving bodies for her lead performance in the television series called “Gonulcelen.” She has also been the featured model of Pantene in Turkey, the Middle East and Azerbaijan.



1. Sebnem Schaefer

Sebnem Schaefer is an actress, model and television presenter born in Frankfurt of German and Turkish parents. She started modeling when she was 15 years old for fashion houses like Zeki Triko Swimwears. She studied in Goethe University where she initially took up Turkology before shifting to Anthropology and European Ethnology. In 2007, she placed second in the Miss Germany pageant. She went to Turkey to star in a couple of television series called “Lise Defteri” and “Emret Komutanim.” She also appeared in a couple of blockbusters in Turkey, namely “O Simdi Asker” and “Dunyayi Kurtaran Adamin Oglu.”
