We're having sf Sunday today at HOLLYWOOD SPY, people, starting with the sf news coming from Content Film which has acquired sf movie 400 DAYS which is currently in postproduction with the release planned for next summer. Starring Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Dane Cook, Ben Feldman, Tom Cavanagh, and Grant Bowler this Matt Osterman directed film revolves around a space crew sent on an extended simulated mission to a distant planet only to discover the simulation is all too real. We might  expect a trailer soon since Content Film plans to sell the movie at Toronto Film Festival next month according to 'Deadline'! 

SLEEPLESS WORLD IN 

FOX'S NEW SF SERIES 'NOD'
In TV news, Fox will develop new science fiction series NOD which, based on Adrian Barnes' novel, explores a world were most humans can no longer sleep with scientists at a complete loss to explain why! In the centre of the story will be an "inter-somnial" couple - Tanya, who can go without sleep, and Paul, who has yet to shake the altered consciousness.
LUKE KLEINTANK IN 'MAN IN HIGH CASTLE'
And Amazon's sf series pilot THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE has the first cast member. Luke Kleintank will star in the adaptation of Phillip K. Dick's story about an alternative reality in which Nazi Germany and Japan won World War II and occupy the United States, with the East Coast controlled by the Nazis and the West Coast owned by Japan, and a chunk of the Midwest still up for grabs! Luke will play a member of America resistance.

Meanwhile, Michael Bay plans to develop Daniel Simon's concept art book COSMIC MOTORS into a sf movie. The book features concepts of stunning cars and vehicles from a planet Galaxion where futuristic concepts exist in everyday life. Nine different spaceships, pods, race cars, giant trains, warships and balloons from various planets of the Galaxion system are shown from concept to completion.

In other news from the historical genre, Avi Rad has teamed up with Chinese Dragon Entertainment to produce a lavish historical adventure GENGHIS KHAN'S TREASURE, a 3D English language spectacle on the famous Mongolian conqueror. With the plan for the film to be released as a global franchise in 2016 the cast will include both Chinese and American actors. Genghis was born in the 12th century as Temujin and then rose from an outcast slave to leader of all the tribes of Mongols, a fearless and visionary warrior and the ruler of the largest contiguous empire in history.

I'm not liking this, people: even though a few weeks ago I reported that Guy Ritchie would like Irish hunk Jamie Dornan for the lead in his six movies franchise KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE: KING ARTHUR, now the word is that PACIFIC RIM's Charlie Hunnam, the man who was sacked from 50 SHADES OF GRAY before Dornan took the lead, is in final negotiations to play the medieval king of Camelot. It was earlier revealed that Idris Elba will play Bedever, Arthur's teacher in all things royal.

DID YOU KNOW?
The movie, which is scheduled for summer 2016, is the last in the series of similar epic projects which tried to bring the legend back onto the big screens. Warner Bros. was planning to make ARTHUR AND LANCELOT with Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman, and there was also a project in which the king was supposed to be played by Colin Farrell with Gary Oldman as Merlin.

The first trailer has been released for Hugh Grant's new romantic comedy THE REWRITE which also stars Marisa Tomei. In the film, which comes out in UK this October, Hugh  is seen playing a washed-up screenwriter who gets a job teaching at a local university. He is divorced, poor and fast-approaching 50. When his agent gets him a job teaching a screenwriting course at a university in Binghamton, he meets single mum Holly (Marisa Tomei), who is also in need of a second chance. The show will follow queen Helena who has her royal hands filled with problems: her older son had died in an accident, her younger son the new heir to the throne (William Moseley) is dating an American girl, her daughter the princess is partying in public, and her marriage with the king (Vincent Regan) is failing.

Disney has released the first official image from their new animated movie INSIDE OUT which comes to theatres next summer following little Riley who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control centre inside Riley's mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters.

Well, I'm guessing Thor has to take a VACATION sometimes too: according to the latest news Chris Hemsworth will join the cast of the VACATION reboot! As you might remember the 1980's comedy starred Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold a man taking his family on a disastrous road trip. In the reboot Ed Helms stars as Rusty Griswold, the adult son of Chevy Chase's Clark Griswold. The story follows Rusty and his wife (Christina Applegate) going on their first family road trip vacation. Chris Hemsworth will play the anchorman boyfriend of Rusty's sister, while Charlie Day will play a river raft touring guide. It was earlier mentioned that both Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, who played his wife, might appear in the film too.

As it happens every year, EMMY 2014 awards went to all the wrong hands last night as well, so let us ease our pain by trashing the celebrity red carpet fashion :) Click on the pics to see them bigger!

THE BEST DRESSED LADIES
So, whom did you like best? Most of the best dressed ladies opted for white, like sexy Sofia Vergara in Cavalli and Lucy Liu in Armani, or for rosy gowns, like two British roses Louise Roe and Cat Deeley.
And those who opted for blue shades looked amazing too: Christine Baranski and Debra Messing were flawlessly refined in midnight blue, while Michelle Dockery looked delightful for the first time ever in colourful but tender dress. I'm not happy to admit it, but for the first time I remember Julia Roberts had the most amazing outfit dressed in Elie Saab.

THE WORST DRESSED LADIES

Some of the ladies looked positively sad even though they wore fiery red. Claire Danes never leaves the worst dressed list, Christina Hendricks' gown was clumsily tailored, while Kaley Cuoco and Zooey Deschanel looked cheap in red and pink.

Mayim Bialik, Lena Headey, Sarah Paulson had granny gowns, while Kerry Washington had nothing of her small screen elegance in that orange number.

LEVI MEADEN IN SYFY'S 'OLYMPUS' MYTHOLOGICAL SERIES

In today's television news from the epic front two upcoming series have new cast members: young Levi Meaden (from THE 100, THE KILLING) is the first one to be cast in SyFy's mythological series OLYMPUS which will air in 13 episodes following a few brave men and women who banished the Gods to the realm of the unconscious – a place they called the Underworld or the Kingdom of Hades. The story centres on a fresh faced and raw young man who, through the dramatic experiences of betrayal, love, disappointment, empowerment and exile, transforms into a ruthless leader of men, and a match for the Gods themselves. Meaden will play Kimon, a young scribe who develops a relationship with the heir to the throne of Athens.

JOSEPH FIENNES' 'CLAVIUS' EPIC SHOW GETS LEONOR WATLING, CLIFF CURTIS
Another historical drama CLAVIUS, which will see Joseph Fiennes toplining the TV show, has added new cast members. Beside Tom Felton, who is already in the cast,  Leonor Watling, Antonio Gil, Maria Botto and Cliff Curtis have all also joined the 1st century-set mystery thriller in which Fiennes plays an agnostic Roman Centurion tasked with investigating the rumoured resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth in order to stop an uprising in Jerusalem.

'FAR FROM MEN' TRAILER

 VIGGO MORTENSEN FINDS TURMOIL IN 1950'S ALGERIA

Today you can watch the first trailer for a film which will premiere next week at Venice Film Festival: it's a historical drama FAR FROM MEN directed by David Oelhoffen and starring Viggo Mortensen. The big screen adaptation of a short story by Albert Camus is set in 1954 Algeria, following two very different men who are thrown together by a world in turmoil and are forced to flee across the Atlas mountains. Mortensen plays a reclusive teacher who must escort Mohamed (Reda Kateb), a villager accused of murder, as they are pursued by vengeful settlers and horsemen seeking summary justice.The film opens up in France next January and will appear at Toronto Film Festival too!

BRILLIANT 2ND SEASON STARTS

Beside BBC's marvellous historical series THE VILLAGE, another absolutely brilliant British TV series of great depth and profound quality is THE MILL which is currently airing its second season over at Channel 4! In the first season (doesn't take much time to watch since it was shot only in four one hour episodes) THE MILL, which deals with the labourers in the early 19th century England, had introduced us with the toils and sufferings of impoverished workers sweating their days in the first factories at the beginnings of the Industrial revolution. 

STORY OF INDUSTRIAL SLAVES
Beside exposing themselves to great dangers working on relatively primitive machines, the workers also had to deal with 12 hour (or longer) working time with no breaks, feeding on rotten porridge with Sunday being their only free day (half of which they had to spend in the church). We've also seen their efforts in organizing strikes and in fighting for their rights against their employers who kept them almost as slaves (either by keeping them away from their families  and even hiding their birth certificates from them, or by forcing them to work mercilessly for poor food, shameful accommodation and not much else).

THE SECOND SEASON

WHOLE FAMILIES ENSLAVED

The second season brings new storylines and some new characters set four years after the first season of THE MILL which tells the story of life in Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire during the 1830s through the eyes of central characters, Esther Price (outstandingly brilliant Kerrie Hayes), a young millworker who risks her own position to bravely stand up for justice (often provoking both tears and laughs from the viewers), and Daniel Bate (charismatic Matthew McNulty), a progressive young engineer with a troubled past. 

THE REAL LIFE STORY
Based on the extensive historical archive of Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire and real people's lives, this powerful drama series depicts Britain at a time when the industrial revolution is changing the country beyond recognition. The series deals with themes of worker's rights, safety in millwork, child labour laws and the political movement to improve these conditions. The second seasons also introduces whole families who are forced to work in THE MILL after losing their farms and all  ways of earning a living. They toil in the mill with their children who spend their childhoods as workers and are aware that, as horrid as they are, the savage conditions in the workshop are still better than letting their kids die from hunger in the streets.

Catching up on the stories we didn't post this week, the voice cast of new live action adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK is rounding up in a rather stellar way: to be directed by LORD OF THE RINGS's Gollum Andy Serkis, the movie will see CGI animals mixed with motion capture and live action scenes. Christian Bale will lend his voice to the fearsome panther Bagheera, Cate Blanchett will hiss as the sinister python Kaa, while Serkis himself will voice the beloved Baloo the bear. Peter Mullan, Naomie Harris and Eddie Marsan will all voice members of the wolf pack that raises Mowgli, while Tom Hollander will portrayTabaqui, the underling jackal of Shere Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch is lending his voice to the main villain). Child star Rohan Chand has been cast as the human boy Mowgli.

THE RIVAL FILM
You should not mix this one with Disney's own version of THE JUNGLE BOOK which is being directed by Jon Favreau. In that rival version, Bill Murray will play the friendly bear Baloo with Christopher Walken (as Ape King Louie), Giancarlo Esposito (Akela the Wolf), Ben Kingsley (Panther Bagheera), Scarlett Jonhansson (snake Kaa), Idris Elba (Shere Khan), and Lupita Nyong’o (mother wolf Raksha) playing other jungle animals.

'AUTOMATA' SF TRAILER

LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER

RICHARD MADDEN AND HOLLIDAY GRAINGER IN LEAD ROLES AT BBC

Three books are going to get their big or small screen adaptations: the first one is famous classic LADY CHATTERLEY LOVER which will be turned into TV drama over at BBC with the ultra gorgeous cast lead by divine Holliday Grainger from THE BORGIAS and two irresistible hunks Richard Madden from KLONDIKE and GAME OF THRONES and James Norton whom I mentioned only a few days ago. In the adaptation of DH Lawrence's iconic 20th century novel, which begins shooting this Autumn in Wales, Holliday Grainger will play the eponymous Lady Chatterley, Richard Madden has been cast as her lover, gamekeeper Oliver Mellors, while James Norton will play Lady Chatterley's war-wounded husband Sir Clifford. As you probably know the book was censored for a number of decades after it had been published in the 1920s.

JOJO MOYES' 'ONE PLUS ONE'

TO GET BIG SCREEN ADAPTATION
Jojo Moyes is already writing a screenplay for the movie version of her bestseller ONE PLUS ONE. New Line Cinema is already preparing a film on her ME BEFORE YOU book and they will do the same with ONE PLUS ONE which follows a single mother with two children, one who is constantly harassed by bullies at school, while the other is a math prodigy. When an amazing academic opportunity opens up on the other side of the country, the mother embarks on a road trip with her children, with the help of her eccentric billionaire employer.

NETFLIX & CHANNEL 4 TO ADAPT

DICKENS' 'A TALE OF TWO CITIES'

Meanwhile, Netflix will team with British Channel 4 to adapt Charles Dickens' A TALE OF TWO CITIES into television series set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The classic story follows a pair of lookalikes, one a former French aristocrat and the other an alcoholic English lawyer, who fall in love with the same woman amongst the turmoil of the French Revolution. As you know, Netflix is also preparing THE CROWN series on the rule of the current Queen Elizabeth II and they're almost finished with the production of MARCO POLO historical series set to air later this year with Lorenzo Richelmy in the lead role of the famous adventurer.

Earlier this year your trusted HOLLYWOOD SPY has told you that Her Cinematic Majesty Judi Dench might join Benedict Cumberbatch in the second run of BBC's historical saga THE HOLLOW CROWN which adapts Shakespeare's plays on famous English kings, and now it is official: Judi is in the cast which she joined together with Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Tom Sturridge. These Shakespeare adaptations (which had Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, James Purefoy, Ben Whishaw in the first run) will now be called HOLLOW CROWN: THE WARS OF THE ROSES, three TV movies consisting of Henry VI parts 1 and 2 and Richard III! Staying in the historical genre, Rachel Brosnahan will play the lead role in CBS historical series THE DOVEKEEPERS! Based on Alice Hoffman’s novel about four extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada, the series will see Brosnahan playing the lead of the four central characters, Yael, a uniquely beautiful and fearless young woman whose mother died in childbirth and whose father forever blames her for that loss. During the dangerous journey they make together through the desert, Yael has a whirlwind romance that will haunt her life even after they arrive at Masada. It's been a very slow week in the movie news business, so we shall head over to UK today where BBC Two has started shooting their new mini series LIFE IN SQUARES. This three episode historical series will follow Bloomsbury Group — a circle of friends and lovers that included Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, EM Forster and Lytton Strachey. The series will explore the relationship between sisters Woolf and Vanessa Bell, also delving into Bell’s sexually complicated alliance with gay artist Duncan Grant as they, and their group of like-minded friends, navigate their way through love, sex and artistic life in the first half of the 20th century.

And some of the better known names who will also appear in the series include Catherine McCormack, Rupert Penry Jones, Jack Davenport and Elliot Cowan. Starting in 1901 with the death of Queen Victoria LIFE IN SQUARES tells the story of the young friends as they aspire to build a world of their own design according to their own distinctive lifestyle in which they lived in squares, painted in circles and loved in triangles.

'KING TUT' EPIC MINI  SERIES

BEN KINGSLEY JOINED BY LADIES
Meanwhile, over at Spike TV, the only remaining Ancient Egyptian series we can look forward to TUT has just added two ladies who will join Ben Kingsley in the six hour mini series revolving around Tutankhamun, aka King TUT (who reigned c. 1333 to 1323 BC), the youngest Pharaoh to rule Ancient Egypt, whose famous golden sarcophagus has become one of the symbols of the ancient civilization. While, I've already told you that Ben Kingsley will play Ay, the Grand Vizier to King Tutankhamun, who wields tremendous power and influence as the top advisor to the young Egyptian ruler, Sibylla Deen (Tyrant) and Kylie Bunbury (Twisted) will now also star in the series. Deen will play Anke, Tut’s sister and wife, while Bunbury will play a character named Suhad.
