Ayşe Hafza Sultan

Suleyman's
mother. She lived in Manisa in Turkey with with her son who ruled the province since
till the 1520. Manisa has traditionally been a place where the future emperor
learned how to rule. She was founder of Mesir festival tradition that still lives
today. Her estate included  a mosque,
school, college and a small hospital.

She is the first woman to become known as the Sultan. After giving birth to
Suleyman I. 06/11/1494. in Trbazonu she had four daughters with her husband
Selim I.

She died in the 3rd Month of 1534. and was buried next to Selim I. in the
mausoleum in Fatih, Istanbul. The mausoleum was destroyed by an earthquake in
1884th. A simpler reconstruction was made in the 1990s.
