Suleyman
the Magnificent series takes place during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent
and brings interesting dramatization of his harem and court. Most of the
incidents and actions are based on the fictional story of the Ottomans,
especially Suleyman and his harem.
Young Suleyman receives news of his father's death and his takeover of the
Sultanate during hunting in the year 1520. In a hurry to get to the capital he
leaves his wife Mahidevran and their son, the little prince Mustafa, in his
palace in Manisa.
At the same time a ship sails from the Crimea over the Black Sea, bringing
Christian girls as gifts to the Ottoman palace. On board Lisowski Alexandra,
daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox priest, begins her journey. Kidnapped by Crimean
robbers, after she saw her father, mother, sister and fiance are being killed. She
in many occasions rebels against her bondage. Yet she is destined to deceive
Suleyman, rising from slave to Sultan. Suleyman makes a decision without
precedent making her his wife. She will give birth to his sons, and together
with the Sultan will rule and will become known throughout the Ottoman Empire
as Sultana Hürrem ("HappySultana").
Television series shows how Suleyman consolidates power, execution of corrupt Viziers,
strengthening the rule of law throughout the Empire, meeting with foreign
diplomats and preparations for a military campaigns.
But the main focus is on the relationship between the members of the imperial
palace, especially romantic relationships and rivalries.
