American Hustle Official Trailer

The first trailer for American Hustle – which reunites Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence with director David O Russell – has been released.

The two-minute clip gives away little about the film’s actual plot, with much of it consisting of footage cut together to the Led Zeppelin hit Good Times Bad Times.

However there is a scene involving Cooper and Christian Bale – complete with 70s-era sideburns – in which Bale’s character Irving Rosenfeld, a con artist with interests in stolen art, explains to Cooper how to identify a fake Rembrandt in a gallery.

‘The guy who did this was so good that it’s real – to everybody,’ he explains. ‘Now who’s the master? The painter….or the forger?’

The film, which also stars Amy Adams, Robert de Niro and Jeremy Renner, focuses on the FBI’s infamous Abscam operation of the late 70s and early 80s, which ultimately led to the conviction of a US senator and five members of the US government’s House of Representatives.

Lawrence stars as Rosalyn Rosenfeld, the wife of Bale’s character, while Cooper will play FBI agent Richie DiMaso.

American Hustle is due for release in December – and is tipped as another potential Oscar contender following the awards love given to Silver Linings Playbook.

That film won Lawrence the Oscar for best actress in February, while Cooper also received a best actor nomination for his role.

The pair will also be reunited on screen as husband and wife in the Depression-era drama Serena, which does not yet have a confirmed UK release date.
