People first reported that the Avengers star was engaged to journalist boyfriend Romain Dauriac.
"I can confirm that Scarlett and Romain are engaged," her publicist Marcel Pariseau wrote in an e-mailed statement to USA TODAY. "They haven't chosen a date for the wedding."
Johansson, 28, got eagle-eyed fans talking Tuesday when she hit the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival in a sexy black dress with one important accessory: a gigantic art deco diamond ring.
Johansson and her reported new fiance of a month were snapped inside the theater during the premiere of her movie Under the Skin look happy and in love.
"Of course it's horrible," she told the magazine. "It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn't work out."
Johansson has appeared in various movies, including "Lost in Translation" and "Girl With a Pearl Earring."
