Ghana’s Highest Paid And Most Influential Actresses

In the last few years, Nigerians have come to love and enjoy Ghanaian movies almost as much as they love Nollywood. Only a decade ago, Ghanaian movies hardly sold in Nigeria while Nigerian movies were blockbusters in Ghana.

Today, Ghollywood, as the Ghanaian movie industry is known, has come a long way. Apart from the sex appeal of Ghanaian movies, they parade some of the most beautiful actresses in Africa, which has kept movie lovers interested in seeing their faces, even if the movie isn’t so interesting.

In this piece, we have decided to feature, in no particular order, seven of Ghollywood’s top actresses

Nadia Buari is probably the most loved Ghanaian actress. The daughter of Sidiku Buari, a Ghanaian musician, Nadia has mesmerized Ghollywood for years. Born in November 21, 1982, the actress is a graduate of Performing Arts from the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana.
The delectable actress, who once dated former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has become a prominent face in Ghanaian movies, featuring in blockbusters like Beyonce, The President’s Daughter, The Return of Beyonce, Hidden Treasure and My Last Ambition.

Jackie Appiah’s career in Ghollywood started after she had a series of  appearances in Ghanaian soap operas. She strikes as a true African beauty, with her beautiful complexion and body. With over a decade in the movie industry, Jackie has received several awards and nominations for her various roles.

The mother of one ranks amongst one of the highest paid actresses in Ghana.

Juliet Ibrahim’s perhaps the prettiest face in Ghollywood. The pretty damsel, who is of Liberian and Lebanese descent, was born in Accra, Ghana, but raised in Ivory Coast and Lebanon.  The actress cum model made her debut in 2005, in the movie ‘Crime to Christ’ opposite Majid Michel.

In addition to acting, Juliet is also a savvy business woman. She owns her own beauty parlour, as well as a Marketing and Advertising degree from the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana. Her foundation, the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation (JIF) is in the forefront of creating awareness on Kidney Cancer.

Nana Ama Mcbrown kind of of stumbled into acting; she was hired to do costume on set but ended up getting a role in the production. In 2001, her first movie ‘That Day’ was released, launching her career in Ghollywood.

Her performance opened the floodgates to choice roles, landing her a spot on the TV Series ‘Tentacles.’ Nana Ama has slowly built a strong following, releasing a slew of critically acclaimed movies like ‘My Own Mother‘, ‘Friday Night’ and ‘Pastors’ Club.’

Yvonne Okoro has got both Nigerian and Ghanaian parentage, Yvonne Chinyere Okereke Okoro is one of the hottest actresses in Ghollywood (those curves speak for her)! She made her screen debut in 2002 in the movie, ‘Sticking to the Promise’ and has featured in hit movies like ‘Desperate to Survive,’ ‘Why Marry,’ ‘Best Friends’ and others, which have earned her recognition and awards.

The beautiful and curvy actress, once linked to the Tottenham Hotspurs and Benin Republic footballer, Emmanuel Adebayor, holds a B.A. in English and Linguistics from the University of Ghana, plus a degree in Press Civilisation, Drama and Marketing from University De-Nantes in France.

Yvonne Nelson who was a contestant of Miss Ghana, has transformed into a household name in the Ghanaian/Nigerian movie industry. The Human Resource Management graduate of the Central University College, Ghana, has emerged as a goddess like actress. Her hot body and ultra sexy long legs have become her strongest selling point, with male fans drooling after her.

Even though her ‘relationship’ with Naija rising pop sensation, Iyanya may not have lasted, Yvonne leaves an indelible mark in the minds of many, not only as an actress, but also as an entrepreneur. She has established YN Productions, YN Closet Fashion Shops, the YN Glaucoma Foundation and the YN Hairline for women.

Jocelyn Dumas is the same pretty lady who featured as the bride in Lynxxx’s video for `Fine Lady’. The pretty actress and television personality, who grew up in Ghana, UK and the USA plays host to one of Ghana’s most watched talk shows, ‘The One Show.’
In 2011, the 33 year old won the Ghanaian TV Personality of the year award. ‘Perfect Picture, ‘A Sting in a Tale‘ and ‘Bed of Roses‘ are just a few of the movies that the Ghanaian ‘face of Range Rover’ has featured in. She is most admired for having a great derriere.
