Chennai Express is an upcoming 2013 Indian action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Gauri Khan under her production banner Red Chillies Entertainment.
The film features Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. This is the second collaboration between Khan and Padukone after the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om and the first collaboration between Khan and Shetty. Chennai Express is about a man's journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and what happens along the way.
The film is all set for a Eid release this August. Initially, Chennai Express was pitted for release against Ekta Kapoor's Once Upon a Time In Mumbai Doobara but after months of deliberation, the Kapoor heiress has relented and is looking at an August 15th release for her film.
The Eid clash of the two powerpacked films had been much anticipated by fans and the film fraternity. However, insiders say Ekta finally paid heed to her well wishers, who reasoned that the films could eat into each other's profit, and decided to give the two films enough space to reach out to their respective audiences.
